Merry-Go-Round

Nine electricity-generating merry-go-rounds have currently been installed at rural schools in Ghana.  Not only can a merry-go-round provide fun and entertainment for children, it can demonstrate hands-on science concepts, such as centrifugal force.

Zip-Line

EPI raised an electricity-generating zip-line at the workshop in Ghana in July 2008. Safety features are being added before a zip-line is installed at a rural school.

Swing Set

A team of students at Brigham Young University-Idaho designed and built a four-seat swing set with an attached generator in 2008. Alan Riser, a US manufacturer, traveled to Ghana to work with Kweku Anno devise a way to build the swing set using local materials in 2009. Empower Playgrounds installed the first electricity-generating glider swing with an attached generator at the rural island school of Pediatorkorpe in November 2009.
